SUMMARY:Mary Shelley
DESCRIPTION:Mary Shelley: daughter of Mary Wollstonecraft; lover of Shelley; author of Frankenstein… \nHelen Edmundson’s compelling play explores a pivotal episode in young Mary’s life – her meeting and scandalous elopement aged sixteen\, with Percy Shelley – and its consequences for her sisters and father. \nThis tumultuous period of private heartbreak\, public outrage and family rifts defined Mary’s future and influenced her writing. Shortly afterwards at just 18 years old\, she anonymously published one of the greatest Gothic horror novels ever written. This is the story behind that story.

Samira will help you become familiar with the tools and materials before guiding you through each construction. \nAlong the way\, develop practical skills for extending and repeating patterns\, both by drawing fuller geometric constructions and by learning how to transfer and tile designs using tracing paper. \nYou will also have the opportunity to explore colour and creative techniques to develop patterns further\, transforming geometric drawings into beautiful artworks. \nSession outline \n\nSession 1 – Sixfold Curves\nSession 2 – Sixfold Stars\nSession 3 – Eightfold Stars\nSession 4 – Exploring Eightfold from Morocco & Spain\nSession 5 –Eightfold Rosette\nSession 6 – Twelvefold Rosette\n\n  \nSamira Mian uses her background in mathematics and education to share her knowledge and artistic passion. Breathing new life into the centuries-old technique of straight edge and compasses rigorous geometry to recreate geometric patterns from the Islamic Lands. \nShe researches and analyses the geometry of these patterns to create intriguing and beautiful art and teach others too. She’s not necessarily a traditional artist and enjoys working intuitively\, reimagining these great patterns with a fresh eye in contemporary colours and styles. For the last 10 years\, she has regularly led workshops in the UK and abroad as well as reaching many online via social media\, Patreon\, Udemy and her YouTube channel. She loves opportunities that come her way in meeting and working with a wide range of people\, brands and organisations. \nTo share this intellectual and beautiful heritage from the Islamic Lands and the immensely satisfying pursuits they involve with the widest possible audience is a dream come true. \nPart of Healing Ealing\nThese workshops are part of the Healing Ealing programme\, a series of sessions at the recently reopened Perceval House led by some of the borough’s leading creatives. SUMMARY:Peter Blake: In the Studio
DESCRIPTION:In November 2026\, Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery will stage a major exhibition showcasing the life and work of one of the most celebrated and influential artists of 20th century Britain – Sir Peter Blake (b.1932). The exhibition is available to view Wednesday to Sunday 9am–5pm including bank holidays. \nIn a career spanning seven decades\, Blake has become the defining figure of British Pop Art with his paintings\, collages\, prints and album covers. \nNow his West London studio – just a short distance from the gallery in nearby Hammersmith – will be recreated inside Pitzhanger\, offering a rare and intimate insight into his working life\, alongside an array of artworks that showcase the full breadth of his artistic output. \nPeter Blake: In the Studio will feature paintings\, sculpture\, collages and works on paper\, revealing his deep fascination with both popular culture and British and American cultural life. \nAt the centre of the exhibition will be an immersive recreation of Blake’s studio\, allowing visitors to step into the world of the artist’s imagination\, and a physical space depicting not only his working environment over many years\, but one which is also home to his extraordinary collection of curiosities\, memorabilia and artifacts that have inspired him throughout. \nBlake burst onto the art scene in the early 60s\, exhibiting alongside David Hockney and appearing in Ken Russell’s BBC programme Pop Goes the Easel which brought British pop art to a wider audience. Living and working in London during the swinging sixties\, Blake and his wife at the time\, Jann Howarth (b.1942)\, created one of the most iconic images of the 20th century with the album art for 1967’s Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Blake first lived in Chiswick from 1957\, leaving for Somerset in 1969 where he spent the next 10 years. In 1979 he returned to Chiswick where he has lived ever since with his wife Chrissy Blake. \nThe relationship to the local area will also be a focus of the exhibition. Ealing’s rich cultural heritage is reflected in Blake’s own interests in music and film\, from The Ealing Club where the Rolling Stones and The Who played their earliest gigs\, to the worldwide legacy of Ealing Studios. The artist’s own role as a collector and super-fan will also be explored. \nThere are more connections to the immediate surroundings with several works on display directly referencing the work of William Hogarth (1697–1764). Famously Soane and his wife Eliza were fans\, and Hogarth’s iconic series A Rake’s Progress (1732–34) was purchased for\, and originally hung\, at Pitzhanger (today it can be seen in the Sir John Soane’s Museum in central London). For the exhibition\, Blake works inspired by Hogarth’s Marriage a La Mode and Gin Lane will be on display in the Small Drawing Room of the Manor where the Soane’s originally displayed A Rake’s Progress. \nFrom the early 1960s to very recent works\, the exhibition will provide a thorough and intimate look at one of Britain’s most enduring and popular artists – all exhibited alongside a recreation of the studio space where he has produced a great majority of his instantly recognisable images. \nPeter Blake: In the Studio is curated by Jake Twyford and Louise Shorr.

SUMMARY:On the Line
DESCRIPTION:It’s the summer of 1976: Eurovision glory\, the Sex Pistols and a relentless heatwave. At the Trico factory in Brentford\, the women are having their own Made in Dagenham moment with the UK’s longest equal pay strike. \nFor Valerie\, swapping the assembly line for the picket line means more than taking on bullish management. It pits her against her husband\, who wants to keep his factory job and cares more about Brentford FC than equal rights. \nA fictionalised play based on real events to mark 50 years since the strikes.

SUMMARY:Movement sessions with Russell Maliphant Session 4
DESCRIPTION:Join award winning dancer and choreographer Russell Maliphant OBE for a series of movement workshops for both dancers and non-dancers. \nThese movement sessions – focusing on stretching\, posture and body work – are for anyone who loves to move. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced dancer\, this session is open to everyone. \nStudies have shown the average office worker spends about 70% of their working hours sitting down\, equating to roughly 1\,300 hours – or 54 days – seated per year. So rather than being one of the 52% of workers that eat lunch at their desks\, join us for a movement session on your lunch break! \nPlease come to the workshop in clothes you are comfortable moving in – whether this be workout gear or loose fitting\, casual wear. You will be asked to take your shoes off for the session so please also wear comfortable socks. \nIf you have any questions regarding access or additional needs or on the format of the event\, please email Culture@Ealing.gov.uk. \nRussell Maliphant‘s work is characterised by a unique approach to flow and energy and an ongoing exploration of the relationship between movement\, light and music. For 20 years\, Maliphant has worked closely with pioneering lighting designer Michael Hulls to explore and realise these ideas. Russell Maliphant and Michael Hulls are both Associate Artist of Sadler’s Wells. \nRussell Maliphant Dance Company was established in 1996 as the framework to initiate productions and to work with our own ensemble of dancers. Since that time we have received two Olivier awards\, three South Bank Show awards and five Critics’ Circle National Dance awards for best modern choreography and one for best independent company\, amongst many other national and international awards and nominations. \nThese workshops are part of Healing Ealing\, a series of sessions at the recently reopened Perceval House led by some of the borough’s leading creatives. Join us for Healing Ealing\, exploring how taking part in creative activity can improve your wellbeing.

SUMMARY:Chopin and Medieval Perivale
DESCRIPTION:Join Talking and Exploring for a special afternoon combining beautiful music\, local history and a guided walk in one of Ealing’s most intriguing places. \nStart the afternoon with a free concert at St Mary’s Perivale or join afterwards for the exploration of the church and churchyard and the guided walk. \nThe concert begins at 2pm and features pianist Shunta Morimoto performing works by Chopin alongside music by Beethoven and Schumann. \nSt Mary’s has medieval origins and a fascinating story of survival. The building has been altered and repaired over the centuries\, including major work in the 19th century and after the chancel wall collapsed in the 1960s. Once the church of a small rural village\, it eventually found itself isolated as Perivale was transformed around it. \nAfter the concert there will be time to explore the church and churchyard\, looking at some of their history\, people and details – and at how this remarkable place survived to become a much-loved concert venue. \nThen take a short guided walk in the surrounding area. Perivale has a particularly unusual story: its centre of everyday life effectively moved. The old village grew up around St Mary’s\, its farms and manor house. From the early 20th century and particularly from the 1930s\, the landscape north of the Western Avenue was transformed by new transport links\, factories and housing. The old village became increasingly isolated\, while a new Perivale developed on the other side of the A40. \nThe walk will explore some of the traces and stories of this changing landscape. The exact route will remain flexible\, depending on how much time we spend at the church and churchyard\, the weather and the pace of the group. \nTimings: \n2–3pm: Optional Chopin concert with Shunta Morimoto. \n3–4pm: Explore St Mary’s church and churchyard \n4–5pm: Short Talking and Exploring guided walk \nThe concert has free admission and no booking is required. St Mary’s relies on donations to support its musicians and maintain the church\, so donations are warmly encouraged. \nThe Talking and Exploring part of the afternoon costs £18. If the ticket price would be a barrier to you joining\, please email dudzinskauk@gmail.com. \nIf you don’t want to attend the concert\, please meet at 3pm outside St Mary’s for the church and churchyard exploration. \nThe church exploration and guided walk are part of this Talking and Exploring event. Talking and Exploring has been bringing groups to St Mary’s and exploring the Polish and musical connections of Perivale for years\, including Polish-themed walks in 2019: Listen to Chopin in Perivale; 2022: A Perivale Walk: Polish Cuisine; and 2023: Perivale: Szopen i rodacy w Perivale (Chopin and Compatriots in Perivale). \nAfter the walk there is the option to stay on at the Myllet Arms for a drink/snack and further conversation. \nAs this is a small event with limited places\, we are unable to offer refunds for cancellations. If you find that you cannot attend\, you are welcome to pass your ticket to someone else. Please let Joanna know their full name and email address in advance.
