Honouring our communities

This October we are marking Black History Season with free events at libraries across the borough. We look forward to welcoming you to celebrate with us.

Spectrum Drama Performance

6th October, 10-11am, Acton Library

6th October, 1pm -2pm, Northolt Library

Ellen Craft tells her story of bravery and freedom. Born into slavery, Ellen Craft and her husband William decide to make a daring escape from their slave master in 19th century America!

Two Black Boys in Paradise

8th October, 6-8pm, Ealing Central Library

Black History Month event featuring an exclusive screening of the BAFTA-winning film Two Black Boys in Paradise. Stick around afterwards for a Q&A with the author and screenwriter Dean Atta and a panel including members from the Ealing Film Festival, University of West London, and MetFilm School. The session will be hosted by Zoe Cornibert from The Black Circle Podcast.

Black History Month Quiz

15th October, 6-8pm, Acton Library

Test your knowledge of the wonderful contributions of Ealing’s Black Caribbean and African to the borough of Ealing, from the early 1700s to present. Hosted by local quiz book author Carlene Bender (Trini Boogie Books / Contact us Ealing), the event is part of Ealing Libraries celebration of Black History Month in Ealing. Copies of Carlene’s Black History in Ealing, West London book will be available to buy, all profits to be donated to CACE, the Caribbean and African Collective, Ealing.

Tracing Southall’s vibrant Caribbean community

17th October, 6-7pm, Southall Dominion Centre

Southall’s Caribbean history in the later twentieth century, talk from Elisia Sebastian Swaby.

Dean Atta book launch and author talk

22nd October, 6pm – 8pm, Acton Library

Big Man follows the life of Big, a middle-aged Black British gay man who lives a gentle life with his boyfriend, Little, in their home in East London. Big and Little enjoy evenings out and group holidays with friends, as much as practising yoga together at home and running side by side along the Hackney canals. Join us for a Q&A with the author.

BHM Music Performances

24th October, 3-5pm, Northolt Library

To celebrate BHM young up and coming artist will perform Hip hop/Soul/R&B with an opportunity for others with an open mic. in collaboration with New Gen.
