Experience a powerful, new, immersive exhibition exploring the largely undocumented history of the UK’s bussing out policy which operated from the 1960’s to the late 1970’s.

The Dominion Centre is the only London venue to host the exhibition as part of its national tour.
Framed as a policy to promote integration, thousands of Black and South Asian children were removed from inner-city schools and transported daily to predominantly white suburban areas. In its wake, it left education disrupted, fractured communities and lasting emotional harm. Its impact remains under-recognised in public memory and policy conversations today.
Set inside a reimagined school bus, Bussing Out combines immersive audio-visual storytelling with real testimonies and animation to place audiences directly inside the lived experiences of the children affected. The installation transforms the bus from a symbol of control and displacement into a space for reflection, connection and collective witnessing.
Rooted in the PhD research of artist and researcher Shabina Aslam, the project centres the voices of those who lived through forced dispersal, while drawing connections to contemporary conversations around race, identity, belonging and power.
The opening event takes place on Thursday 4th June, then the exhibition takes place through June until Saturday 27th June.

The exhibition is open for bookings from schools in Southall and across Ealing. These free sessions will include a tour of the exhibition and workshops led by our fascilitators.

It is fantastic to take Bussing Out around the country. When people have experienced the installation, they are shocked and surprised that something like that could have happened. People are moved, but some of the stories are also funny. Bussing Out started as a passion project for me so it is wonderful that it now has a momentum of its own now with a national tour.
