Call out for West London Regional Park Culture Sub Group
Our aspiration is to create a new West London Regional Park (WLRP) and we are looking for four new members for our Culture Sub Group.
The WLRP is a high-profile and transformative project, being delivered by a partnership that includes Ealing Council, the London Borough of Hounslow, the National Trust, the Canal and River Trust, the Environment Agency and the Greater London Authority.
West London is one of the most dynamic and diverse parts of the capital. The boroughs of Ealing and Hounslow together are home to more than 700,000 people, a number expected to grow significantly over the coming decade. Both boroughs have long histories shaped by the River Brent corridor, the Grand Union Canal and green spaces that define their character.
The regional park will span 13km from Horsenden Hill in the north to the Thames waterfront at Brentford in the south and the partnership has agreed these aims:
The park will:
- Connect green and blue spaces
- Restore nature
- Connect communities
- Celebrates heritage
- Inspire (sparks curiosity, offering beautiful, fun, meaningful experiences for everyone)
- Sustain itself
The vision for the WLRP is that it is more than a day out. The park will become a new destination for lovers of nature, culture and play. A space to replenish health, support the local economy and have fun. The park will act as a green lung for London; strengthening climate resilience while improving air quality for future generations.
Culture to be a key part of the WLRP
Culture will be a key part of how the WLRP is imagined, experienced and understood. This includes the overall feel of the park – from design, landscape, public realm, interpretation and wayfinding, to how people use and experience the park over time.
There is already an ambition to develop an art and heritage trail as part of the wider WLRP route, creating opportunities to tell the stories of West London’s landscapes, waterways and heritage. These stories will celebrate cultural places and activities including:
- Ealing Summer Festivals
- The Hanwell Hootie – the largest free one-day music festival in the UK
- The Brentford Canal Festival
- Creative Mile
- Boston Manor Park and its Walled Garden Theatre
The park itself also provides spaces to support outdoor gathering and celebrations for West London’s diverse communities. The ambition is to create the West London Regional Park, where culture is central and that offers expansive and exciting opportunities to learn, play and take part.
Become a member of the Culture Sub Group
The Culture Sub-Group will help ensure that the park’s cultural programme, interpretation, public art, heritage, creative commissions and community partnerships are embedded from the outset.
The group brings together people with knowledge of local places, communities, creative practice, heritage, public realm and environmental storytelling to help shape the WLRP as a cultural destination, as well as a major green and blue infrastructure project.
The role of the Culture Sub-Group is to:
- Advise the WLRP partnership on the cultural vision, principles and priorities for the WLRP
- Provide feedback on emerging design, interpretation, public realm and wayfinding proposals
- Advise consultants, contractors and delivery partners where necessary, including identity designers, landscape architects and public art teams
- Review and comment on briefs for cultural commissions, artist opportunities, heritage projects and community-led activity
- Identify funding and partnership opportunities for cultural programming, creative partnerships and local participation across the WLRP
- Ensure the WLRP reflects the cultural visions and strategies of Ealing and Hounslow
- Act as advocates for the WLRP and help connect the project with relevant networks, organisations and communities
In the first year you can expect to:
- Provide feedback to graphic designers and landscape architects on the trail, identity and branding of the regional park
- Contribute towards briefs for new buildings at Horsenden Hill and Farm
- Provide feedback on community engagement plans
We are looking for up to four new members to join the sub-group, with members either living and working in Ealing and Hounslow or with strong connections to these boroughs. This could include representatives from cultural or heritage organisations and freelance artists and creatives living and working in the borough.
Members will bring knowledge and expertise to the cultural sub-group. We are looking for people with a particular expertise or interest in:
- Public art, placemaking and creative wayfinding
- Environmental arts, ecology and landscape
- Cultural programming where community engagement and co-production is central
- Access and inclusion in cultural or outdoor settings, particularly with young people and diverse communities
- Interpretation, storytelling, trails, wayfinding or digital content
- Festivals, events, outdoor arts and performance
- Working with communities in Ealing and Hounslow
We particularly welcome expressions of interest from people whose voices are often underrepresented in the sector, including young people, disabled and neurodiverse people, people from global majority backgrounds, LGBTQ+ people, people from working-class backgrounds and people with caring responsibilities.
Sub-group members will meet every quarter online, with opportunities to meet in person. The first full meeting is scheduled to take place in October 2026, with further meetings scheduled for January, April and July 2027.
Please note this is a voluntary position. We recognise the value of members’ time and will keep commitments proportionate. Reasonable travel and access costs for any in-person meetings can be discussed.
