Become a coach for Read Easy Ealing

Your opportunity to take on a challenge and help adults in our borough

Read Easy volunteer groups support local adults who want to learn to read or improve their reading skills, at their own pace and without pressure.

More than 7% of adults in England never learned to read at school. There are meany reasons why some people find it difficult to learn to read when they are children, but the really good news is that it’s never to late to learn!

In Ealing, there are 14,000 adults who struggle to read. But we are so fortunate to have our very own Read Easy Ealing who are here to change that. Read Easy Ealing are on the look out for new coaches to help their mission and maybe this could be you? Many of the one-to-one coaching sessions take place at libraries across our borough.

Are looking for a challenging and rewarding volunteering opportunity, look no further! Reading Coaches work one-to-one with adults across Ealing who struggles to read.

Full training is provided, once trained, you will be paired with an adult who wants to improve their reading. Together you will work through a phonics-based reading programme, supported by a Coordinator.

Do you have:

  • an ability to talk and listen to the person you coach in a patient, positive, encouraging and purposeful way
  • a non-judgemental attitude and a positive respect for others, regardless of abilities, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation or age
  • an ability to focus on your Reader and their needs
  • time, energy and enthusiasm
