Celebrate this important centenary and join us for activities for all the family
Although the museum, once a luxury family home for the wealthy Rothschilds where they held parties and dinner parties for VIPs including royalty, has stood in Gunnersbury since the 18th century, it was in 1926, after Ealing and Hounslow Council’s had taken ownership of the building, that the grounds of Gunnersbury Park were open to the public for the first time. The museum itself opened three years later in 1929.
This year, there will be a events for all the family to celebrate the centenary year of the park opening, starting with Gunnersbury Unlocked. This is the first in a series of exhibitions that explore how the park has been used and enjoyed by the people who lived, worked and played within its grounds.
From the days of the Rothschilds to the present, come and find out how a millionaire’s private estate became a public park, discover how Gunnersbury helped in the war effort in World War II, hear stories from employees, their families and the local community on how the park has been a place for sport, leisure, music, nature and wellbeing for generations of the local community.

On 28th and 29th March, younger children can be entertained by Mrs Armstrong, a costumed character who lived in the house in 1942 as she tells animated stories of life at Gunnersbury Park during the Second World War. Suitable for children 5+.
