Artist Pablo led workshops for school children
Following the official launch of our Southall Public Art Project, you can already see some of the exciting creations going up to bring life and creativity to Southall.
As part of the UK SPF funded project, we have commissioned Pablo, illustrator and painter, to make a mural on Norwood Road Bridge that depicts 12 stories about Southall. Pablo was able to use our launch event at the Dominion centre as the first part of his community engagement to muster thoughts and ideas for his work and allow locals to shape and inform his creative approach. Pablo is listening to local stories to ensure that everyone is included and represented.
On Friday 30th January, Pablo continued his engagement working with school children at Dairy Meadow School. He and fellow artist Ignacio inspired them to consider the history of the school and the area, get their creative juices flowing and between them they created a beautiful mural at the school entrance. The mural has references to the school’s heritage as a dairy farm including a painting of a cow and its multicultural community, with the word welcome written in lots of languages.
In the coming weeks and months, you will see more and more public art going up around our lovely town – and be sure to keep an eye on the bridge at Norwood Green Road to see the full fruits of Pablo’s labour. Keep your eyes peeled around Southall and find out the background behind the art by checking back on our website.
